Shadow Fun

Today is Groundhog Day! We started the day by watching a short video of Punxsutawney Phil, predicting if we will have an early spring or 6 more weeks of winter. The humans involved in the ceremony said that Phil has never been wrong! Impressive groundhog!
Phil! Phil! Phil! Here he is out, and ready to make his prediction! He's completely adorable! The humans put him on a red carpet and then they lean near him and "listen" to him make his prediction.
T
Phil predicted that we will have 6 more weeks of winter! If he wasn't so cute, we would all be super disappointed with that outcome!
The kids were busy coloring and assembling their own groundhogs for a measuring/shadow activity.
The practiced (in the dark) making long shadows...
and short shadows.
Then I sent them outside to try their groundhogs with sunlight!

Oh yeah, and we made people shadows too!
The kids wanted you all to see this picture. I have a new lense filter thingy for my iPhone, and I was playing with it today. We ripped these snowmen in January and they really photograph very well. This is the triple lense.
